Sea Power Naval Combat in the Missile Age

Currently Playing: EP.14 Task Group 77.3 Clears the Way for the Invasion of Palawan | Sea Power

In this episode of our Sea Power: Naval Combat in the Missile Age – Pacific Strike ’85 campaign, Task Group 77.3 is sent into the Sulu Sea for Operation CHALLENGER, supporting an amphibious assault on Palawan. After repulsing the attack on Sandakan, Allied forces are taking the offensive. Our mission is to clear the approaches to Puerto Princesa, destroy Chinese coastal missile batteries and air-defense sites, deal with PLAN naval forces operating in the area, and escort the 17th Marine Amphibious Unit safely to the landing beaches. With limited opportunities to rearm and more operations still ahead, every missile counts. Task Group 77.3 has to fight its way through the defenses, protect the amphibious force, and open the door for the Marines to get ashore. The result is one of our most successful operations of the campaign so far—a Decisive Victory, with every primary objective completed and the entire Allied amphibious force surviving the assault.
