Currently Playing: Mastering HDI Design Rules in Altium Designer

Altium Develop links your HDI layout straight to manufacturing, so you can validate fabrication rules and component sourcing in context before your board ever risks a costly no-bid: https://www.altium.com/develop?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=pcb-layout&utm_content=hdi-pcb-design-rules-how-to-set-up-a-new-project-in-altium Starting a new HDI project means getting your design rules right before you ever place a trace. In this Altium Academy tutorial, host Zach Peterson walks through every HDI PCB design rule you need to configure in Altium Designer, from pulling real fabrication capabilities off an HDI manufacturer to encoding those numbers into the PCB rules and constraints editor. Using a 0.35 mm pitch BGA on an nRF52 module, you'll see how to build a room around a fine-pitch component and apply region-specific via styles, trace widths, and clearances exactly where you need them. From there, the video digs into the manufacturing capabilities that actually drive your HDI stackup: minimum core and dielectric thickness, lamination cycles, copper-weight-dependent trace width and spacing, laser drill sizes and aspect ratios, copper slivers between antipads, and the solder mask rules that decide between solder mask defined and non-solder mask defined pads. You'll also learn how to enforce a controlled-impedance profile in the layer stack manager and control solder mask expansion with the within-room query, so your HDI board stays manufacturable and avoids a no-bid from your fabricator. 👉 Resources from this Video: - What's In Your BGA Land Pattern and Footprint: https://resources.altium.com/p/whats-your-bga-land-pattern-and-footprint - Increase Your Component and Trace High Density With Via-in-Pad Plated Over Technology: https://resources.altium.com/p/increase-your-component-and-trace-high-density-pad-technology 💡 Stay Connected: Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more in-depth tutorials and tips from @AltiumAcademy Share your thoughts and questions in the comments below! 👉 Subscribe for more: https://www.youtube.com/@AltiumAcademy?sub_confirmation=1 Don't forget to follow us on social to stay up-to-date on the latest Altium Academy content. 👉 Follow Altium on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@altiumdesigner 👉 Follow Altium on Twitter: https://twitter.com/altium 👉 Follow Altium on Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/company/altium/ 👉 Follow Altium on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AltiumOfficial/ The Altium Academy is an online experience created to bring modern education to PCB Designers and Engineers all across the world.
