Currently Playing: S-Parameters: That Second Line Is Your Ground, Not a Signal

Altium Develop connects the engineers designing your high-speed boards with everyone else on the project, from layout in Altium Designer through sourcing and manufacturing: https://www.altium.com/develop?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=altium-academy-shorts&utm_content=s-parameters-that-second-line-is-your-ground-not-a-signal S-parameters start with a simple picture: a box called the device under test, or DUT, which can be any circuit built from resistors, capacitors, inductors, and other elements. In this Altium Academy Short, Zach Peterson shows how that device's S-parameters are defined by the signal you put into a port and the signal reflected back from it. He also clears up the part of the diagram that confused him when he first learned S-parameters: the second line drawn beneath the port. That line isn't carrying signals in or out; it's your reference, like a ground plane, which gives each port a plus side and a minus side. If you're getting into signal integrity and network analysis, this is the mental model to bring into the full S-parameters lesson. ▶ Watch the full video: https://youtu.be/qMwcFIByL2g 💡 Watch Next: - S-Parameters Explained Part One | Signal Integrity: https://youtu.be/qMwcFIByL2g - S-Parameters Explained Part Two | Signal Integrity: https://youtu.be/i9cj96ni8jA - How to Extract Circuit Parameters from S-Parameters: https://youtu.be/wXbdV1VmNQA - How to Measure S-Parameter Data with the LibreVNA: https://youtu.be/Tu78Uad5jaY 💡 Stay Connected: Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more in-depth tutorials and tips from @AltiumAcademy Share your thoughts and questions in the comments below! 👉 Subscribe for more: https://www.youtube.com/@AltiumAcademy?sub_confirmation=1 Don't forget to follow us on social to stay up-to-date on the latest Altium Academy content. 👉 Follow Altium on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@altiumdesigner 👉 Follow Altium on Twitter: https://twitter.com/altium 👉 Follow Altium on Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/company/altium/ 👉 Follow Altium on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AltiumOfficial/ The Altium Academy is an online experience created to bring modern education to PCB Designers and Engineers all across the world.
