Currently Playing: Add Thermal Vias to This Drone ESC | 1 Min PCB Design Review

Altium Develop takes a power board from schematic to fabricated panel, with integrated manufacturing quotes, early feedback from your contract manufacturer, and live component availability in one cloud platform: https://www.altium.com/develop?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=one-minute-pcb-design-reviews&utm_content=add-thermal-vias-to-this-drone-esc Thermal vias are what keep a drone ESC alive under load, and in this 1 Min PCB Design Review, Tech Consultant Zach Peterson examines a community-submitted drone ESC that gets almost everything right. The project opens with a full revision history page and an electrical block diagram feeding a set of hierarchical schematics, organization Zach calls out as very well done before he moves into the layout. He also clears up an apparent grounding problem on the isolator: the grounds only look bridged because the pin numbering groups VDD and ground on each side, and regrouping pin ones on the left with pin twos on the right removes the confusion entirely. Zach's one substantive addition for a power system like this is more thermal vias in the die attach pads, where the heat actually needs somewhere to go. The board even arrives with its own panel design, complete with mouse bites for detaching the tooling rails, a level of manufacturing preparation most submissions never reach. 💡 Watch Next: • Do PCB Thermal Vias Actually Work?: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMMxdJ1sP3g • V-Scoring vs. Mouse Bites!
