Altium Develop lets your fabricator check stackup and microvia definitions against their capabilities before you release fab data: https://www.altium.com/develop?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=altium-academy-shorts&utm_content=microvia-design-rule-stay-under-1-1-or-your-fab-says-no Microvia design rules come down to one number: the aspect ratio. In this Altium Academy Short, Zach Peterson shows why fabricators like AdvancedPCB cap laser-drilled microvias at a 1:1 aspect ratio and prefer that you stay below it. With a 4 mil drill diameter and a 3 mil layer thickness, the microvia lands at 0.75:1, which he says works at pretty much any fabricator that offers laser-drilled PCBs. If you're building an HDI stackup, run this check before you send your fab data out. ▶ Watch the full video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QQXOEOoSq4 📚 More from this Episode: - AdvancedPCB — microvia & HDI fabrication capabilities: https://www.advancedpcb.com/en-us/resources/blog/microvia/ (mentioned 0:08) - Selecting the right microvia aspect ratio (Altium Resources): https://resources.altium.com/p/microvia-sizing-your-next-multi-layer-pcb 💡 Watch Next: - HDI PCB Design Review: nRF5340 Stackup & Microvia Mistakes to Fix: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QQXOEOoSq4 - HDI PCB Stackup Breakdown - Etching Weight Via Spacing, & More: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nmf0GTupQlg - When to Use Laser Drilling in PCB Vias: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8_YRFQaTCA - Mechanical Drilling vs. Laser Drilling in PCB Vias: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDYOek36aGc - This nRF5340 Board Needs Microvias | 1 Min PCB Design Review: https://youtube.com/shorts/A2Gv1FDATnM 💡 Stay Connected: Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more in-depth tutorials and tips from @AltiumAcademy Share your thoughts and questions in the comments below! 👉 Subscribe for more: https://www.youtube.com/@AltiumAcademy?sub_confirmation=1 Don't forget to follow us on social to stay up-to-date on the latest Altium Academy content. 👉 Follow Altium on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@altiumdesigner 👉 Follow Altium on Twitter: https://twitter.com/altium 👉 Follow Altium on Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/company/altium/ 👉 Follow Altium on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AltiumOfficial/ The Altium Academy is an online experience created to bring modern education to PCB Designers and Engineers all across the world.
