Altium Develop keeps safety and isolation requirements visible right inside your design files, so every engineer and manufacturer can review a high-voltage layout before it reaches fab: https://www.altium.com/develop?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=hdi-design&utm_content=pcb-grounding-for-isolated-amplifiers-split-grounds-done-right PCB grounding gets tricky when an isolated amplifier sits across a high-voltage isolation barrier, and in this video Zach Peterson answers a viewer's LinkedIn question about when isolated amplifiers are actually worth using. Zach compares isolated amplifiers from Texas Instruments and Analog Devices against isolated ADCs, looking at input voltage range, fixed gain, isolation rating, and where each part fits in a high-voltage measurement system. He then walks through an isolated ADC module layout and moves to the whiteboard to show how to separate the two ground nets through the entire stackup, where filters and circuit protection belong, and how to handle ground offset with a Y-type safety capacitor. If you design voltage sensing, power conversion, or instrumentation boards, you'll come away knowing how to place and ground isolated components without giving up galvanic isolation. 📚 More from this Episode: - Isolated ADCs Deep Dive: https://youtu.be/jhphrm9tktU - Hands-on with a Dual ADC Module Project: https://youtu.be/fVXOrdRMH2Y - Dual ADC Module PCB Design Project (article + design files): https://resources.altium.com/p/dual-adc-module-pcb-design-project - TI AMC4311D isolated amplifier: https://www.ti.com/product/AMC4311D - Analog Devices ADuM7811 isolated ADC: https://www.analog.com/en/products/ADUM7811.html 💡 Watch Next: - Ground Separation in Isolated DC-DC Converters: PCB Design Tips: https://youtu.be/e07nsSz8TsA - PCB Ground Planes: Isolated vs. Non-Isolated Components: https://youtu.be/aZX6IobRqoM - PCB Grounding Mistakes Your Datasheet Taught You: https://youtu.be/4g7VwmrATLo - How to Properly Ground ADCs: https://resources.altium.com/p/how-properly-ground-adcs 💡 Stay Connected: Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more in-depth tutorials and tips from @AltiumAcademy Share your thoughts and questions in the comments below! 👉 Subscribe for more: https://www.youtube.com/@AltiumAcademy?sub_confirmation=1 Don't forget to follow us on social to stay up-to-date on the latest Altium Academy content. 👉 Follow Altium on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@altiumdesigner 👉 Follow Altium on Twitter: https://twitter.com/altium 👉 Follow Altium on Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/company/altium/ 👉 Follow Altium on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AltiumOfficial/ The Altium Academy is an online experience created to bring modern education to PCB Designers and Engineers all across the world.
