Altium Develop unites your schematic capture, sourcing, and manufacturing in one cloud workspace so shoot-through risks and EMI problems get caught long before your portable instrument ships to fab: https://www.altium.com/develop?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=one-minute-pcb-design-reviews&utm_content=shoot-through-could-kill-this-entire-device In this One Minute PCB Design Review, Tech Consultant Zach Peterson examines the schematics for a portable PCR instrument and immediately flags a serious shoot-through risk in the power stage. Because the Intersil gate drivers don't apply any dead time, Zach walks through two practical fixes engineers can use right away: adjusting the gate resistor value to speed up the FET turn-off time, or adding a Miller clamp circuit to hold the gate low. Zach then turns to signal integrity and EMI, where he identifies a common mode choke whose Würth datasheet shows only 90 ohms of impedance at 100 MHz—far too little for reliable USB filtering. He recommends swapping it for a common mode EMI filter specifically rated for USB data lines, noting that a quick search on Octopart surfaces dozens of parts with true low-pass behavior built for the job. 🔹 Connect with Zach: Want your design reviewed by Zach?
