Currently Playing: The Black Box Problem With AI PCB Layout Tools

Altium Develop gives your whole team real-time visibility into PCB designs, BOMs, and manufacturing — so decisions like routing and placement never happen in the dark: https://www.altium.com/develop?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=altium-academy-shorts&utm_content=the-black-box-problem-with-ai-pcb-layout-tools AI autorouters can produce a finished-looking PCB layout, but when the decisions behind that routing make no sense, you have a serious problem. In this clip from a full Altium Academy breakdown, Zach Peterson examines a real AI-generated PCB layout and exposes one of the most frustrating limitations of current AI routing tools: you simply can't tell why they made the choices they did. Without transparency into routing logic, giving meaningful feedback to an AI tool becomes nearly impossible. Adjacent pads split onto separate vias, ground connections daisy-chained through a single via, inconsistent via usage across identical pad types — these aren't random quirks. They're symptoms of a black box system that can't explain itself, making iteration and correction far harder than it needs to be. 👉 Watch more in the full video: https://youtu.be/qX29OWSYTmI 💡 Stay Connected: Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more in-depth tutorials and tips from @AltiumAcademy Share your thoughts and questions in the comments below! 👉 Subscribe for more: https://www.youtube.com/@AltiumAcademy?sub_confirmation=1 Don't forget to follow us on social to stay up-to-date on the latest Altium Academy content. 👉 Follow Altium on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@altiumdesigner 👉 Follow Altium on Twitter: https://twitter.com/altium 👉 Follow Altium on Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/company/altium/ 👉 Follow Altium on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AltiumOfficial/ The Altium Academy is an online experience created to bring modern education to PCB Designers and Engineers all across the world.
