Capcom breaks the seal this episode on their Nintendo console exclusivity. Well, technically. We saw Ghouls ’N Ghosts on Genesis a few months before Side Arms shipped. On PC Engine in Japan, however, Side Arms beat that game to market by a bit, meaning that it represents the great betrayal of the Nintendo way. Do most people care about corporate politics, though? Probably not! That didn't stop me from going on and on about it, though. However, the average person' takeaway from Side Arms should really be that it's an incredible conversion of an arcade shooter: fast, smooth, packed with hazards, and downright mean-spirited. Actually, its spirit is meaner than that of the arcade original. It's almost hilariously brutal... but man, does it sing performance-wise.
