The final TurboGrafx release for 1989 and also the second CD-ROM game ever to ship in the U.S. belongs to... a Sega series? Yes, in one of those weird, messy twists of fate, this momentous title for TurboGrafx CD hails from the Sega-owned Wonder Boy series. It may not say "Wonder Boy" on the American title screen, but we all know the score: this is Wonder Boy III. This game also shipped on Sega's own Mega Drive console a few years later and would be a phenomenal point of reference... if only that port had come to the U.S.! But you know how localization was back in the ’80s and ’90s. (Read: messy.) So, somehow, NEC and Hudson have the lock on this entertaining Wonder Boy entry. Of course, Sega released their own Wonder Boy III around the same time, the dead-classic The Dragon's Trap, which would seem to give Sega the overall advantage. Except that The Dragon's Trap would ALSO come to TurboGrafx a few years later, albeit with a new name. Like I said, messy.
