We move into the post-launch world of Sega Genesis with an exercise in covering the console's bases. There's nothing in either of these sports titles that we haven't seen a dozen times already, but that's to be expected. Early golf and soccer releases on a given console almost invariably work by the standard playbook and simply allow you to calibrate your expectations for the upcoming slate of releases by giving you a clean point of comparison to other machines. By those standards, Arnold Palmer Tournament Golf does a pretty good job of fulfilling its purpose. It has slightly nicer graphics than Power Golf on TurboGrafx-16, offers more courses than any 8-bit golf title to date, and has music that I can only call "extremely Sega Genesis." World Championship Soccer is less remarkable, but since there wouldn't be a another soccer title on a competing 16-bit system for more than two years, it's a case of taking what you can get. ------------------------------ Please support this documentation project through Patreon (www.patreon.com/gamespite ), by picking up some of the related books (www.limitedrungames.com/collections/books ), or by buying a dumb T-shirt (https://jeremyparish.dashery.com ). ------------------------------ Metroidvania: The First Decade is available now at fine book chains and comic shops, such as B&N (https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the-history-of-metroidvania-jeremy-parish/1148489848 or https://www.amazon.com/History-Metroidvania-Decade-One-1980-1990/dp/1506754546/ ).
