The secret power of focused awareness. Have you ever tried to remember something, a name, a place, an idea? At first it appears vague and distant. You know it is there, but cannot grasp it clearly. Then suddenly, after sustained attention, it becomes crystal clear. These two verses begin with this simple human experience and reveal a profound principle. When the mind becomes steady and concentrated, what was previously indistinct begins to shine. Not because something new has been created. It was already present. Only the obscuration has diminished. The sun does not need to be produced every morning. The clouds simply move away. Verse 37 takes us further. Whatever truly exists can be accessed through this awakened power of consciousness. The yogi is not imposing his will upon reality. He is becoming available to it. A dusty mirror reflects poorly. A polished mirror reflects perfectly. When the mind becomes quiet, attentive and rooted in Spanda, things reveal themselves as they are. The awakened yogi does not seek more information. He seeks greater clarity. Because clarity is the doorway through which reality reveals itself. This is Spanda Karika Verses 36 and 37.
