Spanda Karika Verse 3 - The seer across three states, draws attention to the three states we experience every day, waking, dream, and deep sleep. In waking the senses function. In dream the mind creates its own world. In deep sleep both withdraw. Yet something remains continuous through all three states. The verse explains that although the states appear different, the underlying awareness remains undivided. The states change, but the knower of the states does not change. Awareness remains in its own nature. This insight shifts our understanding of identity. We are not limited to any single state. Waking, dream, and deep sleep appear and disappear, but the awareness that knows them remains constant.
