Turiya. The consciousness behind waking, dream and sleep. Every day we move through waking, dreaming, and deep sleep. In waking and dream there is a knower and something known, a duality. In deep sleep, the knower and the known dissolve. The world disappears, thought disappears, even the separate self stops functioning. Think of different appliances. A bulb gives light, a heater produces heat, a refrigerator cools. Each appears different, but switch them off and all return to the same electricity. In deep sleep, the mind, senses, identity, and world return to one undifferentiated state. Yet something remains. On waking we say "I slept peacefully." Some presence was there. Spanda Karika Verse 18 points beyond, to Turiya. Not a separate state, but the recognition of the consciousness present in all states. The same awareness functions through different minds and bodies. The forms appear different, but the essence is one. The knower and the known rise and dissolve, but consciousness remains. This is Spanda Karika Verse 18. #SpiritualWisdom #Consciousness #Meditation #Turiya #SpandaKarika #KashmirShaivism #NonDuality #Awareness #SelfRealization #SanatanaDharma
