Spandakarika Verse 5 takes the inquiry deeper. It moves beyond pleasure and pain, beyond the seer and the seen, and even beyond the condition of ignorance. The verse points to a level of reality where these divisions no longer hold, and what remains is pure, undivided consciousness. In this reflection, the movement is from observing thoughts and emotions to recognising the ground in which both the knower and the known arise. The verse does not stop at witnessing. It directs attention to that which is prior to both, where all experience appears and dissolves without affecting the underlying reality. This is the essence of Spanda. Nothing new is attained. A misunderstanding comes to an end. What seemed separate is seen as one continuous presence, steady, unchanging, and complete.
