I didn’t know fake hotels were a thing… until I booked one. Some places advertise themselves as “hotels” online, but they’re actually poorly run guest houses pretending to be proper hotels. After I complained to @bookingcom, I got a refund. Soon after, the accommodation deleted its listing, created a new one with all the negative reviews removed, and even removed the word “Hotel” from its name. They also deleted and restarted their Google Maps profile.
