Season finale. A woman named Mandy has arrived from North Dakota with a baby. His name is Brian Jr. His father is Brian — a man who is emotionally involved with his partner Mac, who generates a tremendous amount of power from the bottom, and who has no room for Mandy emotionally for that reason. Mac follows all of this with enormous enthusiasm. Dennis needs a new plan fast. Frank's plan: five thousand dollars, take it or leave it, price goes down on return visits. Meanwhile, Charlie needs somewhere to sleep because the Waitress has moved into his apartment, is calling him about groceries, and is acting like a real person — which is not what he signed up for after fifteen years of stalking. Be careful what you wish for. The gang lands at Dee's apartment. Dennis tries to set Mandy up with a millionaire. He tries various other angles. He finally announces that his real name is Dane Brass, he holds top-secret government information, and he's been shot — she can see the blood — and she and Brian Jr. need to run immediately because it is not safe to be near him. Mandy's response: "Are you all finished?" Dennis decides he's going to go be a dad. He says his goodbyes. He gets in the car. He drives away. Then the car explodes. Post-reaction: three actual cliffhangers going into season 13 — Is Dennis coming back? How does Mac carry on without his best friend slash future lover? Is Charlie going to be a father? Is the Waitress staying? Both hosts noted that Glenn Howerton was managing two productions at once — AP Bio ran four seasons — and the exit is well-engineered. Season 12 as a whole: both hosts call it peak Always Sunny, and the argument is character development — Mac came out, Charlie finally got the Waitress and immediately couldn't handle it, Dennis was undone by a baby calling him dad. Dee helped Cricket find lower than rock bottom, and somehow that's her arc. Frank had tapeworms and did not grow. Rekkai's read: the meat and bones of this show works fine as pure one-offs — the through-line is bonus. Twelve seasons and no fall-off. These are five people you would not want to know in real life. We will see you for season 13.
