Maureen Ponderosa has been found in an alley with a broken neck. At the time of her death, she had been mid-transition into becoming a cat — she'd taken the name Bast after the Egyptian goddess, had a reverse nipplectomy scheduled, and had an arrangement with Dennis to store her things at his apartment in exchange for reduced alimony. A true crime documentary crew is now interviewing everyone who knew her. Dennis is the primary suspect. Frank uses his airtime to confess to operating a sweatshop in Vietnam that fed workers cat soup and, when an employee lost a limb, put them in the soup as well — before attempting to walk out of the interview with his mic still on. Charlie is so thoroughly tranquilized that he accidentally confesses to breaking Maureen's neck twice, tells the detective exactly what's in Dennis's safe (catnip, laser pointer, yarn, a flea collar), and then asks if he can go back to watching wrestling. Dee, barred from the production unless she's allowed to play Maureen in the reenactment, shows up with a spray bottle. Dennis, left alone in the room after the detective steps out, looks directly into the camera. He does not blink. He does not move. Post-reaction: Syntell and Rekkai break down a masterclass in format comedy — Always Sunny doing Making a Murderer is exactly the kind of swing that should not work this cleanly, and it does. Dennis Reynolds is the ideal true crime subject because he's guilty of enough things that the one crime he maybe didn't commit still feels completely plausible. The conversation covers Frank being somehow the worst person in a room full of legitimate candidates, the flea collar burning Dee's neck, and the detective's closing line about Dennis's stare — which both agree is one of the most unsettling things this show has ever done.
