How to BREAK the Cycle of Repeating the Same Sin | Hisham Abu Yusuf Full Episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtckZXK7B68 . "You don't see that bank of sins increasing. You don't see that they're impacting you. But they absolutely are." Hasan al-Basri said: "I see the effects of my sins in the horse I ride and the behavior of my wife." Sins don't just disappear – they leave marks on your life, your relationships, and your heart. In this powerful lecture, Ustadh Hisham Abu Yusuf tackles the reality of sincere repentance versus lip service. He explains why you might feel stuck in a cycle of sin and tawbah – and why that cycle is actually a virtuous cycle, not a vicious one. He also provides practical advice on overcoming denial through feedback and self-accountability, and how to increase your fear of Allah through His names and the powerful surahs of the Quran. In this video, you will learn: - The Signs of a Sincere Tawbah: Someone who is seriously trying to change their behavior – wrestling with themselves, fighting their nafs. The sign of a fake tawbah is saying "Astaghfirullah" without reflecting on it and then going right back to the sin. - The "Vicious" Cycle Is Actually Virtuous: If you sin, repent, sin again, repent again – you are not stuck in a vicious cycle. You are in a virtuous cycle. Each time you repent, you get slightly better. It might take 10, 15, or 20 cycles, but you are moving upward. The key is that every time you repent, you have firm resolve to stop. - How to Overcome Denial: Two ways – feedback from good friends (the believer is a mirror to the believer) and self-accountability (muhasaba). Sit down with yourself and have a real, raw, honest conversation. Use the morning and evening adhkar as an opportunity to recall your sins and ask for forgiveness. - How to Increase Fear of Allah: 1. Study Allah's names related to His power and might: Al-Qawi, Al-Matin, Al-Aziz, Shadid al-'Iqab, Al-Muntaqim, Sari' al-Hisab. 2. Observe Allah's creation – watch videos of wildfires, tsunamis, natural disasters. See the might and power of Allah. 3. Recite and reflect on the surahs that remind you of the Fire and Judgment Day – Surah Hud, Al-Waqi'ah, Al-Takwir, Al-Infitar, Al-Qari'ah, Al-Ghashiyah, At-Takathur. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Surah Hud and its sisters made me have grey hair." - How to Ensure Sincere Istighfar: Slow down. Don't race through "Astaghfirullah" like someone is chasing you. Pause, contemplate the meaning, recall your sins, and let yourself feel the weight of what you're saying. - You Can't Know If Your Tawbah Is Sincere – But You Can Try: Nobody has a heart microscope. You can only try, use the ingredients, and trust in Allah's mercy. This lecture will transform how you see your sins, your repentance, and your relationship with Allah. Stop going through the motions. Start wrestling with yourself. And keep repenting – even if you fall again.
