Imam Ibn Hajar in Fath al-Bari explains that the core aspects of worship – all five pillars of Islam (Shahada, Salah, Zakat, Fasting, Hajj) – are concentrated within these ten days. Ramadan has all except Hajj. This is unique to Dhul Hijjah. The Day of Arafah – The Greatest Day of the Year: The majority of scholars say it is the greatest day of the year. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Hajj is Arafah" – if you miss Arafah, you miss Hajj entirely. Allah Descends on Arafah: While Allah descends every night to the lowest heaven, the only known day of the year when Allah descends (in a manner befitting His majesty) is the Day of Arafah. He draws near, boasts to the angels, and says: "What do these people want?" The answer: They want Me, My mercy, My forgiveness. Most People Freed from Hellfire: The Prophet ﷺ said: "There is no day on which Allah frees more people from the Fire than the Day of Arafah." (Muslim) The Story of Amr ibn al-'As: He came late to embrace Islam and asked for his past sins to be forgiven. The Prophet ﷺ told him: "Do you not know that Islam erases what came before it, and Hajj erases what came before it?" Hajj (which occurs in these days) is a complete erasure of sins. Shaitan's Humiliation on Arafah: The Prophet ﷺ said Shaitan is more humiliated, downcast, and infuriated than any other day because he sees Allah's mercy and forgiveness overwhelming his efforts.
