Hello friends! Last month I went to Greece and visited very many museums. All of which had one major thing lacking: there were no spindle whorl replicas in the shops. We need to remedy my lack of bronze age historic replica spindle whorls! The ones on display in Mycene were primarily carved out of steatite, or soapstone. And being a true crafter, of course I thought to myself "how hard could it be?". Soapstone? Nah, that stone is not hard at all, so pretty easy to carve myself some spindle whorls out of it. So that is exactly what we are doing in this video: carving some whorls from the soapstone, and then later spin some Shetland wool on it with my ring distaff. I love that they are both aesthetically pleasing and practically pleasing. How about soapstone spindle whorl carving for your next DIY project inspiration?
