Hello friends! A sustainable closet rests on three pillars: not buying fast fashion, making stuff yourself and taking good care of your items of clothing. I might have neglected that third bit. Quite a bit of my clothes are worse for wear. But fear not, we shall give them a new life in today's video. A dress that got into a not so friendly encouter with a belt, buttons that need resewing and some t-shirtsthat need patching. We shall be using many different visible and invisible mending techniques to give my wardrobe a couple more years of usability. I hope this inspires you to tackle your own mending deathpile. With this revolution we might get a step closer to more sustainble fashion globally! @notshanspeare 's video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XRbj3KxaLM&pp=ygULc2hvcnRzcGVhcmU%3D Some interesting articles to read: On the Chinese news cartoons: https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/signs-and-society/article/highlighting-and-hiding-images-of-farmers-in-chinese-news-cartoons/14DA225C6ACCEF761647A34C248BD16D Visible mending as subversive couture: https://evakittelsen.com/2017/01/20/visible-mending-subversive-couture/ & https://www.lemonde.fr/en/our-times/article/2023/03/19/visible-mending-an-act-of-resistance-to-fast-fashion_6019951_39.html On poverty cosplay: https://carillonregina.com/poverty-cosplayed-by-the-rich/ & https://title-mag.com/why-fashion-loves-to-cosplay-poverty/ On how we perceive anti-consumption acts rather as acts of financial need: https://www.seattletimes.com/opinion/conspicuous-anti-consumption-that-benefits-brands-consumers-and-the-planet/ If you want to join in on the chaos, you can join the patreon via: https://www.patreon.com/MijnWolden You can also find me on Ravelry and Instagram as @MijnWolden If you enjoy spinning, yarn, knitting, fiber arts or any other traditional craft then this channel is right up your alley.
