Each of us need a different truck topper depending on the purpose of the build. A design that is good for one person may not be for another. Some folks are doing roof top tents or truck bed camping and others are just needing to cover the bed. Some are doing both. Wherever you land there are good solutions for you. This video is a good example of the different builds that are truly good solutions. Over the years the uses of truck camper shells have meandered all over the place. We have been building truck canopies here in Palmer Alaska since 1971 and over that time have seen the shells used for camping, utility, construction, looks, kennels, tool boxes, etc. The list of uses is long but they all have one thing in common, keep the weather out of the truck bed. In recent years, so many folks have loved the utility of taking a blank topper shell from us and turning it into a DIY truck bed camper. Simple but small and effective. We learned that the inside volume plays a large role in whether the camping or even just the truck bed living are viable for the longer term. Some are just using the toppers to cover and secure their gear and they sleep in a roof top tent. Others actually build the interior out with heaters and bunks, whatever it is you are doing, both build styles have their place. We love the SmartCap toppers and we love our Cache Camper toppers.
