Zebra Finch Small Aviary: Chapter 8 Part 2 - Chechucuw chechuw Zebra finches absolutely love eating mung bean sprouts; they can really put away a large amount. As you can see in this video, it starts with a fresh, sizable pile of mung bean sprouts—a mix of small and large ones. By the end of the video, that pile has been significantly reduced—likely by about half. There are dozens of zebra finches in this simple little aviary—around 40 of them. They managed to consume half that pile of sprouts in just about seven hours. The video was filmed from around 8:00 AM until mid-afternoon, around 3:00 PM; over that time, the pile of sprouts was depleted by roughly half. Of course, they don't eat all of the mung beans themselves. They often carry some back to their nests to feed their chicks. Sometimes, they also stockpile food near their chicks inside the nest boxes. I’m not sure if they are intentionally storing food for the chicks or simply using the sprouts to line the nest and make it more comfortable. By the way, we’ve been recording videos of these zebra finches for months. If you’d like to follow their progress, you can watch the videos on our channel.
