Beginning in January of 2023, my wife Zoraida and I started visiting a different town in Puerto Rico every two weeks. That means that it will take us over 3 years to visit all 78 municipalities (taking into account unforeseen events such as climate and health issues. We started in the town of Carolina, going clockwise around the municipality of San Juan. Why didn't we cover San Juan (you might ask)? Because that's where Puerto Rico By GPS started, so we thought we could give it a rest and return in a near future as needed. As of June of 2025 we have covered 40 municipalities and the adventure continues.

The next day would mark the 6th anniversary of its head-on collision with hurricane María. María was a category 4 hurricane that plowed through Puerto Rico on the morning of September 20, 2017. In many ways you can’t tell, because everything seems “normal”. The vegetation is green again. Utilities are back up and people seem to be living their lives like nothing happened. But it did happen and the signs are everywhere if you know where to look. I made every effort to be kind with this town. After all, this was ground zero. I’ll show what’s “back to normal”, what needs improvement and what downright messed up. Why? Because that’s what we do. We tell it like is. But keep in mind that this town was brought to its knees just 6 years ago, so in many ways the recovery has been amazing.
