Beginning in January of 2023, my wife Zoraida and I started visiting a different town in Puerto Rico every two weeks. That means that it will take us over 3 years to visit all 78 municipalities (taking into account unforeseen events such as climate and health issues. We started in the town of Carolina, going clockwise around the municipality of San Juan. Why didn't we cover San Juan (you might ask)? Because that's where Puerto Rico By GPS started, so we thought we could give it a rest and return in a near future as needed. As of June of 2025 we have covered 40 municipalities and the adventure continues.

Known for its natural beauty, lush landscapes, and world-famous longaniza (Puerto Rican sausage), Orocovis is a hidden gem that will make you fall in love with Puerto Rico (if you haven't already). As always, we begin in the town square at the San Juan Bautista de Barros Parish, originally built in 1838 and rebuilt in 1937 after a fire. From there, we take to the skies with beautiful aerial shots of the church, plaza, and surrounding streets. Next, we stop by La Casa de la Cultura Orocoveña and nearby Cerro La Guaira, a peaceful spot with stunning mountain views. Then it’s off to the countryside! We visit: • La Sombra, a landmark restaurant famous for its legendary longaniz • Mirador El Gato, for breathtaking views of the Orocovis mountains • Toro Verde, home to the longest zip line in the Americas • The geographic center of Puerto Rico, nestled in the hills • Miradero Villalba, overlooking the town of Villalba and Puerto Rico’s southern coast • El Chorro de Doña Juana, one of the tallest waterfalls on the island • Matrullas Lake, a serene manmade reservoir in the highlands • And the dramatic Cacao Bridge, so remote it's nearly in Ciales — and popular with daredevils! Finally, we wrap up the trip with a 90-minute mountain drive so twisty it could rival Tennessee’s Tail of the Dragon. This adventure is packed with culture, scenery, and even a few Puerto Rican expressions. Stick around to the end — you might just learn something new (and delicious)!
