Beginning in January of 2023, my wife Zoraida and I started visiting a different town in Puerto Rico every two weeks. That means that it will take us over 3 years to visit all 78 municipalities (taking into account unforeseen events such as climate and health issues. We started in the town of Carolina, going clockwise around the municipality of San Juan. Why didn't we cover San Juan (you might ask)? Because that's where Puerto Rico By GPS started, so we thought we could give it a rest and return in a near future as needed. As of June of 2025 we have covered 40 municipalities and the adventure continues.

In case you’re wondering, their were clear reasons why we stayed away from this town for such a long time, but I’m not going to dwell on paste experience. I’ll never understand how there are people that fall for the “10 capitals in 12 days” gimmick that we see so often in travel ads. It’s simply impossible. Just to give you an example. It’s impossible to see Old San Juan in a day; not if you really want to experience it. I know, because I wrote a book about it (see information below). The same thing happens with Ponce. You can stay there for a week and you still won’t see it all. Once again, I know, because I had a list of 35 places to visit and I ended up visiting under 20. And I stayed there two days! This second video about Ponce starts at the outskirts of town. Our first stop was at Hacienda Buena Vista, a 19th century coffee hacienda restored by the Puerto Rico Conservation Trust that gives you a glimpse into world of coffee production back when it was artisanal and labor intensive. Then we go even further back to the Tibes Indigenous Ceremonial Center, where our Taíno Ancestors worshiped the gods and enjoyed a primitive form of soccer way before it was ever created in England in 1863. In fact, there were indigenous tribes at Tibes over 800 years before Christopher Columbus ever walked the earth or sailed the ocean blue.
