A jury is to determine whether Lindsay Clancy is criminally responsible for killing her three children in 2023 in Duxbury, Massachusetts. She was being treated for postpartum mental health issues when she killed the children: Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, who was 8 months old. Plymouth County Superior Court Judge William Sullivan is presiding over the jury trial, which began on July 27 and is expected to last six to eight weeks.

Paul Zeizel is a psychologist who met with Lindsay Clancy in the hospital several days after she killed her children. Zeizel testified as a defense witness in her murder trial in Plymouth County Superior Court in Massachusetts today (Tuesday, August 18, day 15). He said Clancy called her husband, Patrick Clancy, from the hospital using his cell phone, which he said he let her use on the condition she put the conversation on speaker phone so he could listen. He said Clancy told him she hadn't contacted since Jan. 24, 2023, the day she killed their children, and "she wanted to know how he was doing." "She wanted to know if she could call him and find out where things are with her and with him, and how he was faring, and to just speak with him," Zeizel testified. Clancy left a message when he didn't answer the first call, then connected with him when she called again two days later on Feb. 6. "And tell us what she said to Patrick in your presence on the speakerphone at that point," defense attorney Kevin Reddington said. "She had told Patrick that she loved him very much. She was unable to express a lot of emotion, but she expressed love for him, and she had said that she heard a male voice ordering her, telling her that she didn't have any choice, but she had to kill her children, and then kill herself," Zeizel said. Reddington asked Zeizel if he told Clancy "to lie or make that up and pretend that she was hearing voices?" "No," Zeizel answered. "Do you have any conversation or any suggestions to her at all that she should say she heard voices or anything like that?" "Absolutely not," Zeizel answered. "Why did you let her call her husband on your cell phone?" "I let her call husband out of human compassion," Zeizel answered. Zeizel visited Clancy at Reddington's request. The men are friends who've been professional colleagues for 20 years, and Clancy's parents had hired Reddington after she killed her children. Prosecutors are seeking three murder convictions against Clancy for the strangulation deaths of Cora, 5, and her brothers Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months. Her defense is that she's not guilty by reason of insanity because she was in a psychosis related to postpartum problems.
