A jury is to determine whether Lindsay Clancy is criminally responsible for killing her three children in 2023 in Duxbury, Massachusetts. She was being treated for postpartum mental health issues when she killed the children: Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, who was 8 months old. Plymouth County Superior Court Judge William Sullivan is presiding over the jury trial, which began on July 27 and is expected to last six to eight weeks.

The judge in Lindsay Clancy's trial today selected the jury foreperson before his clerk randomly selected six of the 18 jurors as alternates. The other 12 began deliberating about 12:30 p.m. EST. Reports say the deliberating jurors are nine women and three men. Judge William Sullivan said jurors "should all talk about this case only in the presence of each other." "That is, at some point, we'll have lunch brought to you. So, if you'd like, you may, as a group, decide to suspend your deliberations, have lunch, and then return to the deliberations, or you might decide you'd like to work through lunch while deliberate. Either way, the only thing we can't have is some of you eating lunch separate from others while deliberating. Alright? So no subcommittees in a sense," Sullivan said. "What you do, you do as a as a group. Alright? You do it all together."He called the identification of alternate jurors "a difficult part." "When we impanel a jury at the beginning of a trial, we never know whether some personal emergency will arise or during the course of the trial, which would require one or more of the jurors to be excused from further jury duty. To avoid having to start the trial all over again," Sullivan said. "If that should occur, we impaneled in this case 18 jurors, even though the case will be eventually decided by 12 of you. And so the way it's done is the clerk will draw the alternates' names. We put all the numbers, the exclusion of the foreperson and then we'll draw out the names randomly for the alternates," Sullivan said. The clerk drew six juror numbers, then swore in the bailiffs. Jurors still were deliberating as of 3 pm. EST today (Thursday, August 27, day 22). Clancy, 35, is charged with three counts of murder for the strangulation deaths of 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson and 8-month-old Callan on Jan. 24, 2023, at their home in Duxbury, Massachusetts. Jurors can consider manslaughter as a lesser included offense to murder. Her defense is that she's not guilty because she was psychotic due to postpartum problems and didn't know what she was doing.
