Dr. Shabir Ally explains that when the Quran 62:1–3 says the Prophet was sent “to them and to others yet to join them,” it’s not referring to other prophets; rather, it’s referring to future generations of believers. The “unlettered people” were the Prophet’s first followers in Mecca, and the “others” are those who would come after them and embrace the same faith. In other words, the Prophet’s mission was never limited to one people or one moment in history; it was meant for all humanity, for all time. Some later groups misunderstood this verse and claimed it foretold another prophet, but as Dr. Shabir explains, the Arabic and context make it clear: this verse describes the enduring reach of the Prophet Muhammad’s message, not the rise of another messenger.
