Curated by: Let the Quran Speak (115 videos)
Is the Quran actually talking about preserving the Torah in Surah 15:9? That’s the surprising claim some have made. But is it true? Dr. Shabir Ally unpacks the verse that says, “Indeed, We revealed the reminder (dhikr), and indeed, We will preserve it.” While some argue that dhikr refers to the Torah, Dr. Shabir explains that the context clearly shows it refers to the Quran. Just a few verses earlier, the revelation is being addressed to Prophet Muhammad, and the critics are calling him mad for receiving the dhikr -- the Quran. Though dhikr can mean “reminder” and has been used elsewhere for previous scriptures, this verse is clearly focused on the Quran. Dr. Shabir also clarifies that while Muslims respect earlier revelations like the Torah and Gospel, they believe those texts have been altered over time. The Quran, however, is seen as the final message, one that God Himself promises to safeguard.
