Curated by: Let the Quran Speak (115 videos)
Quran 33:32-33 is often misunderstood as a blanket command for all Muslim women to stay at home and avoid speaking to men, but Dr. Shabir Ally explains that the verses are explicitly addressed to the wives of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who occupied a unique spiritual and social position as “Mothers of the Believers.” Because of their status, they were given special prescriptions: to speak in a dignified, non-flirtatious manner so their intentions could not be misconstrued, and to avoid the kind of ostentatious public display that characterized pre-Islamic times. Importantly, the verses do not mean absolute seclusion (the Prophet’s wives were active in society) but rather an emphasis on preserving their dignity and protecting the Prophet’s household from any potential scandal. Misunderstanding arises when these specific instructions for the Prophet’s wives are generalized to all Muslim women, overlooking the Quran’s own wording that they “are not like other women.” If you enjoy this video, please support our work financially by: Visiting our website http://www.QuranSpeaks.com OR Sending an etransfer to iGive@QuranSpeaks.com OR Subscribing monthly at Patreon.com/QuranSpeaks ► DONATE: http://www.quranspeaks.com/ ► SUBSCRIBE: https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=quranspeaks Facebook: http://www.Facebook.com/LetTheQuranSpeak Instagram: http://www.Instagram.com/QuranSpeaks.tv Twitter: http://www.Twitter.com/Quran_Speaks
