Dr. Shabir explains that while early commentators interpreted these verses through a pre-scientific lens, modern scientific knowledge allows us to see how closely the Quranic description aligns with embryological stages, such as the drop, the clinging clot, the lump of flesh, and the bones clothed with flesh. He notes that older ideas, like the belief in a miniature human inside sperm or the ovum, shaped early Islamic thought and even legal rulings, such as waiting periods for women. Today, however, scientific discoveries about fertilization and development reveal new depth in the Quran’s words, offering a clearer appreciation of the text and reminding us that understanding evolves as knowledge expands.
