It is really difficult to come up with any shortcomings when it comes to the ring chin up. It is an exercise with no apparent tradeoffs. It maximizes the best qualities of the pull up and chin up; both top tier exercises in their own right. Get really good at this one, and you can have it all... more muscle, more strength, and happier joints.
