The crew of Serenity is flat broke and grounded on Ariel when Simon walks in with an offer: help him break into one of the Alliance's best hospitals to run a full diagnostic on River, and in return he'll show them exactly what's worth stealing. They'll need a junkyard medical shuttle, fake EMT credentials, and two people who are technically dead for it to work. The plan is actually good. What Simon finds inside River's brain — what was done to her, why she feels everything and can't stop — is one of the clearest answers the show has given so far. It lands differently than the crew expected. And the hospital heist has a second complication no one planned for, one that puts the loyalty holding Serenity together to a test that's hard to come back from. Post-reaction: Leo breaks down Jayne as a character — fascinating and infuriating in equal measure. "When your loyalty is money, you're loyal to nothing." Syntell gets into Mal's crew-first philosophy and what it says about leadership.
