Firefly Season 1 Finale REACTION | "Objects in Space" + River Tam Sessions | First Time Watching | Syntell & Leo Syntell and Leo (Geekly Goods) react to Firefly, Season 1, Episode 14 — "Objects in Space." The series finale. River Tam picks up a branch and sees a gun. Not a branch with a gun in it. The branch is a gun. That is her world now. Zoë's version: they got pinned down, three men, she couldn't move. River appeared. She looked for one second, took the gun, closed her eyes, killed all three, and then closed their eyes too. She just did the math. The crew is deliberating what River represents for the safety of the ship when a man named Jubal Early is already inside, already moving through the corridors. He is a bounty hunter in the way that a man can be a bounty hunter and still ask philosophical questions about whether a room has purpose when it's empty. Early moves through Serenity methodically. He handles Mal, ties Kaylee up in the engine room, and presses Simon for River's location. Simon won't give it — his last act in this verse is not going to be betraying his sister. But River isn't where Early expected her to be. She says: I'm not on the ship. I'm in the ship. I am the ship. Serenity is very unhappy with what's been happening on board her. River offers herself as Early's bounty — she'll go with him and everyone else goes free. Simon pushes Early off the ship. He floats. River asks permission to come aboard, and plays jacks on the floor while Jubal Early drifts west in the dark. After the episode, Syntell and Leo watch the River Tam Sessions — eight minutes of Alliance Academy footage, Session 1 through Session 416. Session 1, River is bright, curious, happy to be there. Session 1 question: would I still be allowed to dance? Session 416 does not go the same direction at all. Post-reaction: Jubal Early is the most unusual villain the show produced — philosophical, cruel, off-center in a way that should feel like comedy and lands as horror instead. Leo's full-run verdict: could have been six, seven, eight seasons easy. The characters and the world are top tier. It feels woefully, tragically incomplete — a season one that got everything right except a season two. Shepherd Book's mystery is the most dangling thread. What the crew doesn't know about the Preacher, the bounty hunter knows. River Tam Sessions: Session 1 to Session 416 is night and day, and Summer Glau understood the assignment at every stage of it. Both hosts are ready for Serenity.
