The crew has a job in Canton, a mud-factory settlement on a remote moon. The complication: Jayne has been to Canton before, and Canton has not forgotten him. He did not expect to arrive and find a statue. Simon goes undercover as a buyer. He is very bad at this. Inara has her own appointment with the Magistrate's son that has nothing to do with mud. River is having a difficult morning. And Jayne — who would very much like everyone to stop looking at him like he's something he's not — finds out that being a folk legend is significantly more complicated than it sounds. Post-reaction: Both hosts are struck by where the episode lands — what it says about belief, about the stories people need to survive, and about the gap between who someone actually is and who others need them to be. Shepherd Book carries most of the weight in that conversation. Mal gets the last word on statues. Leo calls it a very good episode. Syntell has been saying "just wait" since episode one. The show keeps proving him right.
