Currently Playing: What is Work? (High School Physics)

The term “Work” is very common in all physics text books, from high school physics classes up to advanced University lectures in mechanics. This is why it is essential to have solid mental image of what it actually means. Yet, when I ask random high school students to explain it to me, quite often, they run into trouble. Paradoxically, the concept of Work is extremely simple: this is why just two minutes are enough to get a good grasp of what it means. So watch this video carefully, each word counts… Work in “Physics” can be quite different from our everyday use of word “Work”, but it can also be quite similar. All depends of what type of everyday “work” you are referring to… Once you realise what work is after watching this video, as an exercise, think about everyday situations and evaluate if there is Work being done, by who or what, and on who or what. Work is very closely related to energy, so consider this too while doing so. After watching the video, you will know what I mean! If you have any questions, I am here for you in the comment section. So feel free to ask away! #mechanics #physics #energywork ***** This video is produced and presented by Edouard Reny, Ph.D. in solid state chemistry and private tutor in Physics.
