As the Airbus A321neo headed back toward JFK, the situation became even more serious when the crew reported fumes in the cockpit and told controllers they had gone on oxygen. The pilots were also preparing for an overweight landing and advised ATC that they would not be using thrust reversers because of the fuel leak — meaning they were expecting extremely hot brakes after touchdown.
