Captain Steeeve and Kennedy Steve are finally back together on the Captain Steeeve channel! On June 4, 2026, San Francisco International Airport experienced a radar outage that created a major problem for controllers managing traffic into one of the busiest airports in the country. With IFR conditions around the airport, arriving aircraft were sent around, other flights were handed back to Approach, and airplanes on the ground began stacking up as controllers worked through the outage. But what actually happens inside an air traffic control tower when the radar screen disappears? In this episode, Captain Steeeve brings the pilot perspective while retired JFK air traffic controller Kennedy Steve explains what is happening from the other side of the radio.
