That year, the rulers of Prussia, Austria and Russia came together to dismember the once mighty Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth among themselves. And all of this without any significant resistance. How was this possible? What led Frederick the Great of Prussia, Joseph II & Maria Theresia of Austria and Catherine the Great of Russia to such a drastic step? How did they justify it? Why did Poland-Lithuania 'agree' to the partiton? And what did the new owners of those lands do with the territories they had acquired?
