In this video, we take a close look at Prussia's failed attempt to Germanise its Polish speaking regions. While the initial decades of Prussian rule were marked by an era of relative tolerance for its Polish minority, more nationalist voices called for a different approach in the 1880s. We will explain why the decision to Germanise Posen and West Prussia was made, how it worked and why it failed so catastrophically and actively strengthened the Polish national movement. The video also focuses on the village of Golenhofen, which was uniquely built as a model village to showcase the success of the Settlement Commission.
