Between 1939 and 1945, the Nazis murdered around 200.000 disabled people in Germany and Austria because they deemed their lives to be ‘unworthy’. This heinous mass murder was ordered by the highest authorities and carried out systematically. Ultimately, the perpetrators sought to ensure the genetic superiority of the German people and to save money that would otherwise have been needed to care for the needy. In the end, this “euthanasia” program paved the way for the subsequent extermination of European Jews.
