Corporal punishment is illegal in Chinese schools — as it absolutely should be — but unfortunately, that doesn’t mean it has completely disappeared. After 16 years living and working in China, including time working in education myself, this is something I think is worth having an open and honest conversation about. This isn’t about attacking Chinese schools, teachers or China. It’s about raising awareness of something that shouldn’t be happening and hearing from people who have their own experiences and perspectives.
