Every time my family and I travel around China, we make it our mission to hunt down the most authentic local noodles — and with so many different varieties across the country, there’s always something new to try! Here in Guangxi, 米粉 (mǐfěn — rice noodles) are the local go-to, so of course we had to find a proper little family-run place to try them. And, as is so often the case in China, it didn’t disappoint. One of the things I love about China is that these small, independent eateries are still everywhere — and many of them seem to thrive. The people running them are often incredibly friendly, and you can really feel the extra time, care and pride that goes into the food. Nothing fancy.
