With Kit Connor as Cyclops, Sadie Sink returning as Jean Grey, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm, and Adam Driver as Mr. Sinister, Marvel is assembling a fascinating combination of rising stars, established actors, and genuinely unexpected choices for its new generation of mutants. But the casting itself is only part of why I’m excited. In this video, I break down the entire MCU X-Men cast, why Marvel seemingly building this franchise around younger actors could be exactly what the studio needs after Avengers: Secret Wars, why beginning without Wolverine could ultimately benefit characters like Cyclops, Jean Grey, Rogue and Storm, and what Mr. Sinister tells us about the direction of the film. We also discuss director Jake Schreier’s X-Men reboot, his stated love for Chris Claremont’s legendary X-Men comics, the ideological and interpersonal drama that makes the X-Men fundamentally different from the Avengers, and why everything we’re hearing suggests Marvel understands that mutants need to be more than another superhero team. After years of nostalgia dominating Marvel’s treatment of the X-Men, this finally feels like the beginning of something new.
