In the Electric Universe Model, lightning near the ground is one of the last steps of a very elaborate electrical circuit that stretches from the interior of the Earth to the Sun. Academic science has yet to catch up and still thinks lightning as purely a product of heat and friction in the lowest part of Earth's atmosphere, disconnected from anything else happening in the cosmos. The purpose of all the electrical machinery surrounding the Earth—similar to the power company's transformer on the corner of your street—is to step down the Sun's voltage so the force of its electric charge is digestible to all living creatures on the planet. Otherwise, the surface of the Earth would be a barren, blasted and completely inhospitable world.
