The DC Animated Universe is famous for taking obscure comic book characters and completely revitalising them. But while villains like Mr. Freeze got tragic, gothic makeovers, Justice League Unlimited took a completely different approach with Chronos: they leaned entirely into the fact that David Clinton was an absolute loser. From his mundane comic book origins to an overlooked tie-in story by Dan Slott, Chronos has always struggled with bad timing. But when JLU transformed him into the reality-warping Lord Chronos, we got an unhinged look at a broken man retreating from his problems into godhood. In this video essay, I break down the psychology of David Clinton, his regression under trauma, and why Batman handed him the most horrifying punishment: a permanent, localised purgatory that is truly a fate worse than death. 🔔 Subscribe for more in-depth reviews and analyses of your favourite DC cartoons and comic books! 👍 If you liked the video don't forget to like, share, and leave a comment! 🔔 Click the bell icon to stay updated on future content! 🌟 Become a member for exclusive perks and early access! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0yFOXbX98P3qz-IvT7uRQQ/join 🎶 Music by Katt Strike - listen to the whole track here: https://youtu.be/VKdA2lCjtas?si=pi0iWvL5bMCJupHL If you enjoyed this video I've got many more you could watch. From Batman: The Animated Series through to Batman: Caped Crusader, these discussions look at the ideas behind the stories: what makes a hero compelling, why certain episodes endure, and how small creative decisions can shape the meaning of an entire series.
