In the Batman: The Animated Series episode “Vendetta", Killer Croc was introduced as a scheming, unrepentant force driven by pure spite. So why did his scheme to frame Detective Harvey Bullock backfire so spectacularly? While iconic BTAS rogues like Mr. Freeze, Two-Face, and Clayface were given tragic, sympathetic origin stories; Killer Croc was treated differently. Croc was a relatively recent creation when Batman: The Animated Series aired in 1992. Rather than exploring his tragic comic backstory, Vendetta presented him as a cunning former mob hitman looking for revenge against the men who put him behind bars - specifically Detective Harvey Bullock. In this video essay, I break down the noir mystery of "Vendetta," address common fan misconceptions about Killer Croc’s intelligence, and analyse the fine line between true criminality and Bullock's morally grey policing. I also discuss some behind-the-scenes production trivia (including how director Frank Paur changed the climax) and examine how Croc's arrogance ultimately forced Batman and Harvey Bullock to form a begrudging alliance. 🔔 Subscribe for more in-depth reviews and analyses of your favourite DC cartoons and comic books! 👍 If you liked the video don't forget to like, share, and leave a comment! 🔔 Click the bell icon to stay updated on future content! 🌟 Become a member for exclusive perks and early access! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0yFOXbX98P3qz-IvT7uRQQ/join 🎶 Music by Katt Strike - listen to the whole track here: https://youtu.be/VKdA2lCjtas?si=pi0iWvL5bMCJupHL If you enjoyed this video I've got many more you could watch.
