In the Batman Beyond episode Black Out, the real villain isn’t just a shapeshifting assassin. It’s ink. This video essay explores how Inque isn’t simply another superpowered criminal, but the physical embodiment of corporate corruption in Neo-Gotham. Hired by Derek Powers to sabotage Foxteca and secure a government contract, Inque represents something far more unsettling than a traditional Batman rogue: she is Powers' policy made lethal. A signature turned into a weapon. When Warner Bros executives pushed for a teenage Batman focused on school life and everyday problems, the creative team responded with something darker. Instead of cafeteria drama, Black Out gives us boardroom warfare, industrial espionage, and a villain who nearly kills Terry McGinnis in his third outing.
